Kia ora koutou. The 2020 Election Statement-Whakapuaki Pōti of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops-ngā Pīhopa Katorika o Aotearoa has just been published. Printed copies will be sent to all parishes over the next week. It is also available online through the NZCBC website. As befits this Māori Language Week-Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, the Election Statement is published in Māori and English.

In their Statement, your bishops urge voters to say “no” to the euthanasia referendum and ask you to give “serious thoughts” to the effect of cannabis on vulnerable young people when considering the cannabis referendum. They also urge voters to consider the poor and vulnerable when voting, but expressly say it is not their role to tell people who to vote for.
