Tongariro Catholic Youth Ministry

Tongariro Catholic has adopted a two-prong approach to youth ministry:
Longer term strategy
1. Immediate Strategy: parents and kids just wanted us to get a youth group up and running. So that’s what we’ve done!
Luckily, we have two parishioners, Sarah Marneth-Rust and Talia Steiner, who are both passionate about youth ministry. They agreed (with no twisting of arms) to coordinate the youth group – YAH!!! They will be working closely with the Alex Bailey and Briege Koning of the Diocesan Youth Ministry Team as well as with the parish priest.
Year 7 & 8 Youth Group (we’re still looking for a cool name) opened its doors on Friday, 17th June 2016. We meet weekly during the school term – closing down for the holidays to give everyone a break!
The evening starts a 5.30pm and ends at 7.00pm.
We offer the kids:
something to eat
some prayer and worship time
some activity and teaching
2. Longer Term Strategy: Our dream is to be able to have a Youth Ministry Team, based in Taupo, that will coordinate, manage and facilitate Youth Ministry, not just in our Parish, but in our Collegial Area as well. We are presently working with the Bailey and Briege from the Hamilton Diocesan Youth Ministry Team to look at a team of 3 or 4 trained youth leaders who will live in community, set up youth groups across the age range then plan and run the youth group activities.
This is a really exciting opportunity for our Parish and Collegial Area.
