3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: NEHEMIAH 8:2-6,8-10
Ezra and Nehemiah (the religious and political leadership of the day) grounded their work in Scripture. How does Sacred Scripture guide your life?
SECOND READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-30
Paul uses the human body as an analogy for the many and varied parts of the Christian community. What role would you like to have in your parish?
GOSPEL: LUKE 1:1-4,4:14-21
We hear how Jesus began to reveal his true identity as Israel’s long-awaited Messiah in his hometown of Nazareth. Have you ever received news that you thought was unbelievable? What was it?

A Word from Fr Danny:
Word of God Sunday
This Sunday, we hear the very beginning of Luke’s Gospel, where he states his intention: “After carefully going over the whole story from the beginning, [I] have decided to write an ordered account.” Luke continues, explaining that his purpose is so that “[we] may learn how well-founded the teaching is that you have received.”
This reading aligns with Word of God Sunday, for which Pope Francis has chosen the theme “I hope in your Word” from Psalm 119. By doing so, the Pope combines Word of God Sunday with the Jubilee “Year: Pilgrims of Hope.” He emphasizes that while we may have many hopes in life, there is one singular Hope—the Person of Christ. We can have a well-founded hope in Christ, the Word of God, through the Scriptures, where we encounter Him in the written word.

I love watching the people enjoying coming together as they make new friends. It is a privilege to be able to serve everyone. I also loved Msgr Trevor’s enthusiasm and the joy we all feel as we servers come together for coffee and sharing afterwards. We get as much as we give! … Leslie
