5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ISAIAH 6:1-2,3-8

Isaiah eagerly accepted God’s call to serve once his sin was removed. What helps you be open to serve others?

SECOND READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-11

Paul reminds the Corinthians of the Gospel message he proclaimed to them about Jesus’s death and resurrection appearances. What do you think makes preaching successful?

GOSPEL: LUKE 5:1-11

In Jesus’ call of the first disciples, we see Peter’s obedience and humility. How might you put these virtues into practice this week?

A Word from Fr Danny:

Three times in his first homily as Pope, St. John Paul II said, “Be not afraid.” In today’s Gospel, Our Lord says to Simon, who will be the first Pope, “Do not be afraid; from now on, it is men you will catch.” It would seem that Pope John Paul II was inviting the people of God to participate with him in the holy task of evangelising the world.

Is this not the privilege we all have as baptised and confirmed Christians—to be united with our Bishop and, through him, with the Church of Christ, with Peter, and with the thrice-holy God? This "divine order," as it were, is important because, as we see in the Gospel, it was from within Peter’s boat—the Church—that the miraculous catch was forthcoming.

We have so many wonderful young people who contribute in so many ways to our vibrant parish life.  As well as our mighty team of altar servers, our children serve on our greeting team, operate the projector and livestream and sing in our choirs.

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the way they bring the love of God to life in our parish by sharing their gifts.

Where:  Playground on Jarden Mile

When: Sunday 9 February at 11.30am.

Since it’s humble beginnings in 2018, our Community Lunch has grown into a valued weekly event, serving around 30 people every Tuesday. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our parish and the wider Taupō community to connect over delicious food in a welcoming and friendly environment - truly bringing the love of Christ to others.

This success is thanks to Msgr Trevor’s vision and hospitality, Margaret Beck’s organisation, and the dedication of our incredible team of volunteers who set up, cook, bake, serve, and clean up each week. A huge thank-you to everyone involved!

After years of leadership, Margaret is ready to hand over the reins. Do you have a gift for organisation and a passion for community? If so, please contact Alison on 027 662 5078 to continue this wonderful initiative that nourishes both body and spirit.

I love watching the people enjoying coming together as they make new friends. It is a privilege to be able to serve everyone. I also loved Msgr Trevor’s enthusiasm and the joy we all feel as we servers come together for coffee and sharing afterwards. We get as much as we give! … Leslie

THIS WEEK….

Don’t our gardens look beautiful?!  If you’re keen to lend a hand on a casual basis, to pull a few weeds, come along on a Wednesday anytime between 12noon and 3pm and join some of our gardening team.

Life’s challenges come and go, but God’s mercy never stops flowing. Like a river, His grace is always moving—our choice is whether to step into the flow or stand on the banks. Join us this Friday as we reflect on His unending mercy, how it carries us through life’s struggles, and the power of choosing to remain in His grace.

COMING UP…
