Palm Sunday

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ISAIAH 50:4-7

Isaiah bears witness as one who did not lose his faith despite persecution and ridicule. Can you discuss a time when your faith was put to the test?

SECOND READING: PHILIPPIANS 2:6-11

Paul teaches the Philippians that Jesus was humble and obedient to God even to the point of death by crucifixion. Why do you think humility and obedience are important virtues in following Jesus?

GOSPEL: LUKE 22:14-23:56

In his passion narrative, Luke is the only evangelist to highlight that both Pilate and Herod (Antipas) find Jesus innocent of the charges against him. Is there a friend or co-worker you could help this week who is being treated unfairly?

A Word from Fr Danny:

Why do we celebrate the Suffering and Crucifixion of Christ twice during Holy Week – firstly on Palm Sunday, and then on Good Friday? Perhaps it is so we share in Christ’s Passion throughout the week , and because the Mass and the Cross represent the same event.

Our role is to be moved by these earth‑shattering events, not merely as observers but as Christians, that is, ones who follow Christ. In our prayers, we could ask: “How can we emulate Your life this week?” The Gospel’s account of Christ’s last words, “Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit,” offers a way forward. Do we truly desire to follow Him by surrendering our spirits to the Father? While we cannot die with Christ, we can unite with Him by engaging in the unique liturgies and practices of Holy Week.

Please continue to pray for our elect, who will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil.

- Fr Danny

Stay with me. Remain here with me. Watch and pray.

As challenging as it is, walking with Christ during Holy Week is a core part of our discipleship. It is an act of love and friendship with Christ—a gift of staying present with Him during the most difficult and unsettling part of His journey. We do this because He has asked us to remain near Him, awake and alert. It is the offering of ourselves, the truest gift we have to give.

Over the next week, you are invited to engage with our interactive Holy Week Display in the foyer. Sit with Jesus at the Last Supper. Feel the weight of the Cross. Taste the bitterness of the vinegar He was given to drink.
