Divine Mercy Sunday

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ACTS 5:12-16

In the aftermath of Jesus’ resurrection, the Apostles performed “many signs and wonders,” healing the sick and exorcising unclean spirits. Is there something in your life that needs healing?

SECOND READING: APOCALYPSE 1:9-13,17-19

John is initially frightened at the strange vision of Jesus, but Jesus reassures him, “Do not be afraid.” How does Jesus calm your fears?

GOSPEL: JOHN 20:19-31

The resurrected Jesus’ first words to his disciples are “Peace be with you.” How could you be a peacemaker this week with a family member or neighbor?

A Word from Fr Danny:

In his final address before dying, Pope Francis said, “All those who put their hope in God place their feeble hands in His strong and mighty hand.” Is this not what Our Lord did with Thomas in today’s Gospel when He said to him, “Give Me your hand”? Christ wants to unite us with His resurrected body, and His resurrection is not just an idea to be accepted – it is a reality to be lived.

We can only live this reality because of His mercy, without which we would be overwhelmed just to be in His presence, let alone be able to be in Communion with Him. And this mercy is not merely a human mercy – it is Divine Mercy. That is, it is a Mercy coming from the Heart of God, now mediated through His glorified, resurrected body. And the good news is that His mercy even works with sinners. In fact, Our Lord said to St Faustina, “The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My mercy.”
