22nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: DEUTERONOMY 4:1-2,6-8

Moses urged Israel to follow God’s commandments, in order to become a “great nation,” filled with “wise and intelligent people.” Where do you see our nation following God’s commandments?

SECOND READING: JAMES 1:17-18, 21- 22,27

James sees religion at its best when it cares for those on the margins of society and resists the false trappings of the world. How might you help someone less fortunate than you this week?

GOSPEL: MARK 7:1-8,14-15,21-23

Jesus challenged the Pharisees and scribes of Jerusalem on how they interpreted traditional Jewish purity laws. What do you think helps someone have a “clean heart?”

A Word from Fr Danny Fraser-Jones

This week, I had the pleasure of being with a group exploring the possibility of entering the Church through the RCIA program. The hunger that people have for faith is something that always inspires and challenges me. One challenge is determining what in the vast teachings of the Church is essential to share with those interested in the Church. In today's Gospel, Christ purifies the understanding of the Scribes and Pharisees, helping them discover what is essential. Can we ask ourselves, what is the most important thing I can do to deepen my response to Christ?

Fr. Danny
