24th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: ISAIAH 50:5-9
Isaiah stands firm in his faith as he suffered in following God’s call. Can you think of a time when you supported someone in their faith?
SECOND READING: JAMES 2:14-18
James believed that good works are the fruit of faith. Where is there a need for good works from you this week among family or friends?
GOSPEL: MARK 8:27-35
Jesus reveals to his disciples that as the Messiah, he is destined to suffer greatly and die, but on the third day, rise from the dead. This was difficult for Peter to accept. How do you stay open to ideas you resist?

A Word from Fr Danny Fraser-Jones
In today’s Gospel, we hear the word 'disciple' four times. Discipulus, being Latin for 'student,' makes it no surprise that Our Lord then goes on to 'teach them.' It is a privilege to be a student, as someone is offering their time to impart something important. When Our Lord strongly rebukes Peter for daring to correct or teach Christ, it is because it is of the devil for Peter to attempt to reduce the mystery to mere human understanding. Christ, the teacher, is zealous for the truth that His Passion, Death, and Resurrection are the only way to true life. If this is true of the prophecy of Christ’s Passion, how much more true is it of the reality of that sacrifice we encounter at every Holy Mass? What would Our Lord say to us if we dared to diminish the Mass?
