25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: WISDOM 2: 12, 17-20

The Jewish wisdom writer teaches us that wicked people revile and test those who are just and upright. What might be an effective way to win over a wicked person?

SECOND READING: JAMES 3:16-4:3

James encourages us to be sincere and consistent in cultivating peace. Can you think of a situation this week at home or at work where you could seek peace?

GOSPEL: MARK 9:30-37

We hear today that the disciples did not always understand Jesus and were afraid sometimes to ask him questions. How would you suggest dealing with tensions that arise in close relationships?

A Word from Fr Danny Fraser-Jones

If our Lord was ever frustrated, today’s Gospel would have been the time. He is teaching His disciples in private, telling them for the second time about His Passion, Death, and Resurrection, and the first thing they do is argue among themselves about who is the greatest. The concerning thing for us is that they did not understand Him, and they were afraid to ask. If we have never experienced not understanding Christ, or if we have never, in some way, been afraid of Him, is there a danger that we have not fully received the strength of His words and His message?

Fr. Danny

Ministers for Sunday, 22 September
25th Sunday in Ordinary Time(B)

THIS WEEK….

This Sunday, we gather for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal 2024 with the theme “Clearly, Dearly, Nearly.” Your generosity supports Bishop Richard in his mission to spread the Good News, care for the vulnerable, and nurture our faith community. Through this Appeal, the Diocese extends the Bishop’s hands and heart, reaching out in love and service.

Brochures, Bishop Richard’s letter, and donation inserts will be available in your parish this weekend, and the online donation portal will be live at www.bishopappeal.cdh.nz

Please consider making a donation—every gift, big or small, helps continue this vital work.

COMING SOON!

On the tough urban streets of Washington, D.C., 10-year-old Thaniel Battle (Cordereau Dye) takes up with a gang who plans to rob a shop owned by Jewish immigrant Eli Zeal (Burt Reynolds). During the robbery, Eli puts up a fight -- and in the ensuing chaos, Thaniel unwittingly shoots him. Thaniel's mother, Tyree (April Grace), panics and kidnaps Eli, dragging him and Thaniel to her Louisiana hometown, where she rediscovers her Christian roots and introduces both son and hostage to the church.
