27th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: GENESIS 2: 18-24

Today’s reading from Genesis provides the foundation for our Christian understanding of marriage. Who in your life has a happy and successful marriage

SECOND READING: HEBREWS 2:9-11

The author of Hebrews teaches us we are united with Jesus as one family in our suffering and death. Are there any family members who need your support and comfort this week?

GOSPEL: MARK 10:2-12

The Pharisees learned that Jesus holds a higher standard on marriage than even Moses. Does Jesus’s position on marriage surprise you?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:

A happy blessing of being a relieving supply priest is the privilege of meeting so many good people throughout New Zealand.  Thank you for welcoming me back to the Parish of Tongariro Catholic again for October 2024.  We are greatly privileged to be united to Christ and gathered at Mass.  From encountering Christ at Mass we go forth to spread the Good News to the wider community.  The Good News of salvation and of caring for one another is a joyfully evident feature of parish life here.  Thank you and God bless you.

After 6 years of being diligently and constantly on call at Waikato Hospital, Fr Danny is taking a well deserved break over October. Fr John Jolliffe sm will be joining us for the month. We pray for Fr Danny, Fr John and all the priests in our diocese.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time(B)

THIS WEEK….

COMING SOON!

Alpha isn't just a course to learn about Christiantiy.  It's an opportunity to build community and to develop or deepen our relationship with God.  Not sure about it?   Here's some feedback from our last Alpha Course in July:

"It was a good relaxing way to learn about God and Jesus in a loving space. It was also a lovely experience for making friends and enjoying some laughter and I would like to attend again."

Can You Help?

Homestay Accommodation Request

19 Year old engineering student looking for homestay accommodation during the week from 11 November to 21 February.

Caleb (19yrs old) is studying engineering at the University of Waikato. His family belong to St Columba's Parish in Frankton, Hamilton.  He has secured a work placement at the Mercury energy geothermal plant in Mokai over the summer holidays.

He is looking for a weekday home stay arrangement from the 11th of November to the 21st of February 2025 (excluding December 21 - January 5) He is happy to pay board.

Caleb will go home to Hamilton every weekend Friday after work & return Sunday evening.

If you are able to help Caleb please contact Elaine (his mum) on 0210469655.

Frances Larwood and her amazing team of volunteers keep our church sparkling clean.  She has a few gaps on her cleaning roster and is looking for people who can vacuum one section of the carpet and pews in the church approximately three times a year.  If you can help - follow the link below or sign up in the church foyer.

For the past few years, our community lunch has thrived, and we’re excited to see our numbers growing! We’re fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who have consistently supported us, though, as with any community, we face the natural ebb and flow of life.

In Term 4, we’ll be serving sausages, onions, salad, and a delightful assortment of finger food desserts.

If you’re able to assist with our volunteer roster, we would greatly appreciate your help! Typically, it involves preparing one dish per term, so it’s quite manageable.

If cooking isn’t your forte, we’d also welcome donations of pre-cooked sausages.

To lend your support, please reach out to Margaret Beck at 027 384 8451, email her at margaretbeck7@gmail.com, or speak with her after Mass.

We invite everyone to join us on Tuesdays at 1 PM for this wonderful time of fellowship. We hope to see you there!
