28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: WISDOM 7: 7-11

We hear how Solomon prayed for and received the virtues of prudence and wisdom. What are you praying to the Lord for these days?

SECOND READING: HEBREWS 4:12-13

Hebrews teaches us that “the word of God” knows and understands what is in our hearts and minds. Do you find this comforting or unsettling?

GOSPEL: MARK 10:17-27

Jesus taught his followers that excessive wealth and possessions can impact one’s priorities in life. What are some practical ways to keep Jesus as a top priority in your life?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:

God loved us into life and loves us still. Otherwise we would not even exist. So that is our fundamental identity, who we are. God continues to communicate love through Jesus, the Word of God, God made flesh, who lives among us to save us.God initiates that intimate personal relationship and wants us just to listen with an open heart and respond in trusting love.“The Word of God is something alive and active: it cuts like any double-edged sword but more finely... it can judge the secret emotions and thoughts. No created thing can hide from him.” Let God be God and fill our open hearts with intimate love and joy.

- Fr John Jolliffe sm

After 6 years of being diligently and constantly on call at Waikato Hospital, Fr Danny is taking a well deserved break over October. Fr John Jolliffe sm will be joining us for the month. We pray for Fr Danny, Fr John and all the priests in our diocese.

Ministers for Sunday, 13 October
28th Sunday in Ordinary Time(B)

THIS WEEK….

Everyone is welcome to come along once a month and share their favourite books and authors. It's a relaxing way to connect with our community over morning tea and a chat!

Every Tuesday at 1pm our fantastic team provide delicious food and outstanding hospitality for anyone in the Taupō community. Come along, invite a friend and enjoy our weekly community lunch.  If you are interested in helping with this fantastic intiative contact Margaret Beck margaretbeck7@gmail.com

Alpha isn't just a course to learn about Christiantiy.  It's an opportunity to build community and to develop or deepen our relationship with God.  Not sure about it?   Here's some feedback from our last Alpha Course in July:

"It was a good relaxing way to learn about God and Jesus in a loving space. It was also a lovely experience for making friends and enjoying some laughter and I would like to attend again."

Catherine and Dennis Hancock host this fantastic group who deepen their faith through watching great Catholic video content and exploring it through discussion.  Everyone is welcome to come and join them. If you're interested, contact Catherine: 027 662 8996.

This month we will have a focus on the Spirtuality of St Thérèse of Lisieux.  We welcome Fr John Jolliffe who will explore the great simplicity and depth of St Thérèse's spirtuality and how we can apply that to our own lives today.

WE PRAY FOR

Our prayers are with Bobbie and her family as they mourn Terry, who passed away last Sunday evening, and whose requiem Mass was celebrated in Taupō on Saturday.

ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HIM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

THANK YOU!

Homestay Accommodation Request

Caleb and his family were overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of the parishioners who responded to their request. He has now found somewhere to stay. A fantasitc example of the outstanding hospitality that our parish community is famous for.

Frances Larwood and her amazing team of volunteers keep our church sparkling clean.  She has a few gaps on her cleaning roster and is looking for people who can vacuum one section of the carpet and pews in the church approximately three times a year.  If you can help - follow the link below or sign up in the church foyer.

For the past few years, our community lunch has thrived, and we’re excited to see our numbers growing! We’re fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who have consistently supported us, though, as with any community, we face the natural ebb and flow of life.

In Term 4, we’ll be serving sausages, onions, salad, and a delightful assortment of finger food desserts.

If you’re able to assist with our volunteer roster, we would greatly appreciate your help! Typically, it involves preparing one dish per term, so it’s quite manageable.

If cooking isn’t your forte, we’d also welcome donations of pre-cooked sausages.

To lend your support, please reach out to Margaret Beck at 027 384 8451, email her at margaretbeck7@gmail.com, or speak with her after Mass.

We invite everyone to join us on Tuesdays at 1 PM for this wonderful time of fellowship. We hope to see you there!
