29th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ISAIAH 53:10-11

The prophet Isaiah sees how suffering can have a positive outcome. How do you help family members or friends who are struggling?

SECOND READING: HEBREWS 4:14-16

The author of Hebrews encourages us to be confident in asking for “timely help” from the Lord. In what ways do you need the Lord’s help today?

GOSPEL: MARK 10:42-45

Jesus teaches James and John that humility and service to others is what defines greatness in the kingdom of God. How might you be of service to a friend or co-worker this week?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:

We have been loved into life by God for an important mission. We are chosen and sent out on a mission that involves spreading the Good News of God’s love to others in need. Each person has unique gifts and talents to share with generous love and compassion.

St Teresa of Avila teaches us:

“Christ has no body now, but yours.

No hands, no feet on earth, but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which Christ looks with compassion into the world.

Yours are the feet with which Christ walks to do good.

Yours are the hands with which Christ blesses the world.”

- Fr John Jolliffe sm

After 6 years of being diligently and constantly on call at Waikato Hospital, Fr Danny is taking a well deserved break over October. Fr John Jolliffe sm will be joining us for the month. We pray for Fr Danny, Fr John and all the priests in our diocese.

THIS WEEK….

Every Tuesday at 1pm our fantastic team provide delicious food and outstanding hospitality for anyone in the Taupō community. Come along, invite a friend and enjoy our weekly community lunch.  If you are interested in helping with this fantastic intiative contact Margaret Beck margaretbeck7@gmail.com

Alpha isn't just a course to learn about Christiantiy.  It's an opportunity to build community and to develop or deepen our relationship with God.  Not sure about it?   Here's some feedback from our last Alpha Course in July:

"It was a good relaxing way to learn about God and Jesus in a loving space. It was also a lovely experience for making friends and enjoying some laughter and I would like to attend again."

Catherine and Dennis Hancock host this fantastic group who deepen their faith through watching great Catholic video content and exploring it through discussion.  Everyone is welcome to come and join them. If you're interested, contact Catherine: 027 662 8996.

Everyone is welcome to come along and explore the foundations of our Catholic Faith, and what is more central that the Mass?  Although Foundations is a key component of our RCIA pathway, everyone can come along and learn something new, or ask questions about the Mass!

WE PRAY FOR

Our prayers are with Sam and his family as they mourn Chantelle, who passed away last Sunday evening, and whose funeral service was celebrated in Taupō on Friday.

ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HER O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HER.
MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.
